Current Opportunities

Position: Maitre'D/Sommelier
Reports To:  Food and Beverage Manager

 
 

The Hotel Eldorado is currently seeking a talented and qualified candidate for the position of Maitre’D/Sommelier.  Reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager, this position provide leadership and guidance to the service team, ensuring both guest and employee satisfaction. The successful candidate will provide leadership, support, and motivation to the front of house service team, while taking an active role in the hotel’s wine program. This position will be responsible for completing other tasks as assigned by the Food and Beverage Manager.

 

Areas of Accountability

Responsibilities and essential job function include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and warm hospitality to all guests

  • Ensure guests enjoy their dining experience, and take action when improvements are needed

  • Have extensive knowledge of wine lists as well as menu items and their preparation

  • Recognize and engage with our valued regular patrons

  • Active involvement in the training, coaching and development of our front of house service team

  • Ensure members of the service team are knowledgeable of the wine list, menu items, and service standards

  • Communicate with the Food and Beverage management team on a daily basis

  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of all policies, procedures and standards stated in Hotel Eldorado CREW Handbook

    General Duties

  • Be visibly present in dining outlets throughout service

  • Ensure guests are seated comfortably and there is a server present to take their order

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the service team, ensuring both guest and employee satisfaction

  • Provide guests with complete information regarding wines and their compatibility with menu items

  • Assist servers with wine service

  • Check in with guests to ensure their satisfaction

  • Make pricing recommendations

  • Deplete dead stock wines to keep inventories stable

  • Oversee wine storeroom to ensure availability and accuracy of products

  • Meet with wine representatives to stay informed of product availability, potential new products etc.

  • Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation

  • Hands on involvement in creating and costing beverage menus

  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by the Food and Beverage Manager

    Skills and Qualifications

  • Possess a professional, positive attitude and a polite and composed demeanor

  • Previous supervisory/management experience in a high volume, fine dining setting

  • Sommelier Certification

  • Thorough understanding of wine, spirits and other alcohols

  • Possess good judgement and effective problem solving skills

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, and POS systems

  • Previous hotel experience an asset

  • Must be well spoken and comfortable talking to customers about wine and food

  • Ability to consistently execute standards relating to service and presentation

  • Ability to multi-task in a high pressure environment

  • Serving It Right Certificate

  • Ability to communicate verbally and written in English

  • Flexible: must be available to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
